OUR MISSION

Our mission at the SASHA Center is to increase awareness, provide resources and educate the public about sexual assault, provide culturally specific peer support groups to self identified experiencers of rape and to increase justice and visibility for survivors in Southeast Michigan.

ANNUAL REPORT

Over the past fiscal year, SASHA Center proudly delivered vital support services, including sexual assault support groups, prevention education, and culturally specific programming, to uplift and empower experiencers of sexual assault in the African American community.

ABOUT SASHA CENTER

SASHA CENTER is a sexual assault service, prevention and educational agency designed to provide educational/support groups to experiencers of sexual assault.

SASHA CENTER provides:

  • Prevention and educational presentations/workshops to schools, communities, churches, corporations and other organizations to raise awareness of sexual assault.

SASHA CENTER has a focus on:

  • Activism to provide opportunities for engagement within the community via rallies, marches, and open forum activities to bring attention to the negative impact of sexual assault.

OUR FOUNDER

Kalimah Johnson, LMSW, is an experiencer of sexual assault and a dedicated advocate with over two decades of expertise supporting other experiencers of sexual violence and intimate partner abuse. As the Founder and Executive Director of the SASHA Center in Detroit, Michigan, and a former Assistant Professor of Social Work at Marygrove College, she has been at the forefront of culturally specific programming and education. Kalimah also serves as a consultant to major organizations, including the National Basketball Association, National Hockey League, and National Football League, offering expertise in relationship safety and emotional well-being.

Recently, she enhanced her leadership skills by completing the Athlete Development Professional Certification Program at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, further empowering her work with professional athletes. Beyond her advocacy, Kalimah is a poet, writer, and owner of a natural hair care studio in her hometown of Detroit, combining her passions to inspire healing and creativity in her community.
